In addition, the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar qualifying teams will be the last to involve 32 teams. The FIFA Association offers the 2022 FIFA World Cup to include 32 teams in Qatar the first in a Muslim-majority country where 48 teams are scheduled for the 2026 tournament in the United States.
This is the 22nd edition of the men’s World Cup tournament and is due to be held in Qatar from November 20 to 18 December. This will be FIFA’s last World Cup in which 32 teams are playing with an increase of 48 teams set for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
All 211 (expected) (from 6 confederations) remaining FIFA member associations were eligible to enter the qualifying process. Qualification started on 6 June 2019,
All 24 teams are eligible, and Qatar automatically qualifies as a host. The merit process was honored on 2 December 2010 with hosting rights.

FIFA selected 32 teams from 5 continents for the road to Russia. Africa (5 teams), Asia (5 teams), Europe (14 teams), North, Central America and the Caribbean (3 teams), and South America (5 teams).

CONCACAF (Central America and Caribbean Association Football)
- First round: CONCACAF teams ranked 6 to 35 based on the FIFA ranking of July 2020.
- Second round: The six first-round group winners will play in a two-legged home and away series. The three winners will advance to the final round
- Third round: The three-second round winners will join the top five CONCACAF teams.

OFC (Oceania Football Confederation)
Qualifying was expected to begin in September 2020, but the FIFA international window in that month for the OFC was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On 28 July 2020, the OFC announced that they had submitted a proposal to FIFA for the qualifiers in response to the pandemic.
First round: The 11 OFC teams would be split into two groups based on their FIFA Ranking, and play round-robin matches at a centralized location.
Second round: The four teams would play knockout two-legged home-and-away matches. The eventual winner would advance to the inter-confederation play-offs.

UEFA (Union of European Football Associations
The qualification format was confirmed by the UEFA Executive Committee during their meeting in Nyon, Switzerland on 4 December 2019. The qualification will depend on results from the 2020-21 UEFA National League.
- First-round: 10 groups of 5 or 6 teams with group winners qualifying for the World Cup final.
- Second round: The 10-group runner-up would be joined by the best 2 Nations League group winners, based on the National League overall ranking.
